The Andromeda Galaxy is our nearest galactic neighbor residing approximately 2.5 million light years away and is similar in mass and size. Andromeda is namesake of its constellation and is visible to the the naked eye under good seeing conditions. It is a spectacular sight through most astronomical instruments. Smaller galaxies (M32 and M110) can also be seen as diffuse bright objects near Andromeda.
